The Hasselblad Zeiss Distagon 40mm F4 CFE FLE is a legendary ultra-wide-angle lens designed for the Hasselblad V System medium format film cameras. It features an 88° diagonal angle of view, which is roughly equivalent to a 22mm lens on a full-frame 35mm camera.
This specific model is highly regarded because it combines the advanced CFE designation (with electronic data bus connections for 200-series bodies) and the manual Floating Lens Elements (FLE) ring to maximise image sharpness across all focusing distances.
Key Features
- FLE (Floating Lens Elements): Wide-angle retrofocus lenses naturally suffer from close-up aberrations. The manual FLE ring allows you to pre-set your approximate distance range (e.g., close-up, medium, or infinity) before fine-tuning focus. This ensures edge-to-edge sharpness and incredibly well-controlled distortion.
- CFE Mechanics: The “E” stands for electronic. It includes a databus contact interface that passes aperture information to modern metered Hasselblad 200-series bodies, while remaining completely backward compatible with mechanical bodies like the 500C/M.
