Item Description
The Olympus OM-1 is a legendary 35mm manual-exposure SLR film camera, celebrated for being the smallest and lightest full-frame SLR of its time when it launched in 1972.
Designed by Yoshihisa Maitani, it is a fully mechanical camera, meaning it can function perfectly without batteries, which are only required to power its built-in light meter.
Key Features
- Mechanical Reliability: Because the shutter is mechanical, you can continue shooting at all speeds (1s to 1/1000s + Bulb) even if the battery dies.
- Unique Controls: Unlike most SLRs, the shutter speed dial is a ring located around the lens mount rather than on the top plate, allowing you to change settings without taking your eye off the viewfinder.
- Massive Viewfinder: It is famous for having one of the largest and brightest viewfinders in its class, showing 97% of the actual frame.
- Advanced Features: It includes a mirror lock-up (rare for a camera this size) to reduce vibrations for macro or tripod work, and a self-timer.
